What a Day in AJJ’s Afterschool Martial Arts Program Looks Like
If you’ve ever wished the school day ended with something more useful than screens and scrambling for a ride, this is for you. Annunziato Jiu Jitsu (AJJ) runs a martial arts afterschool program in Azle: school pickup, a snack, and coach-led Brazilian jiu jitsu until an authorized adult checks your child out. It’s structured training after school.
The program now serves kindergarten through 8th grade (K–8). We pick up from all Azle ISD elementary schools, plus Azle Junior High and Santo J. Forte Junior High.
The short version of the day
Here’s the usual flow, Monday through Friday:
- School pickup
- Arrival at the gym (Brightwheel notifies you)
- Healthy snack and change into the day’s uniform
- Warm-ups and coach-led instruction
- Kids jiu jitsu class
- Checkout by an authorized adult
Parents get time back at the end of the workday. Kids get a full training session with coaches who know them.
School pickup and arrival
Our vans pick students up after school. Elementary pickup generally runs in the mid-afternoon window after dismissal. Junior high students dismiss later, and they are on the mat by 4:30 PM.
When your child is picked up at school and when they arrive at the gym, you get a notification through Brightwheel, the app we use for attendance and parent communication. You always know they made it from school to us.
Once kids arrive, they settle in with a healthy snack, then change into the uniform set for that day: a gi every day except Monday and Wednesday, which are No-Gi days. Coaches and staff keep the afternoon moving so students go from “just left school” to “ready to train” without a long, unstructured stretch.

On the mat
Elementary students are typically on the mat by about 4:00–4:15 PM. Junior high students are on the mat by 4:30 PM. From there, the afternoon is coach-led Brazilian jiu jitsu: warm-ups, technical instruction, controlled drilling with partners, and the same kids class structure families already know at AJJ.
Jiu jitsu is a grappling art. Kids learn positions, balance, and how to move with a partner. When something feels uncomfortable, they tap (pat their partner or the mat), and everyone stops right away. That rule is one of the first things we teach.
Beginner students finish with Beginner Kids; parent pickup is 5:45 PM. Advanced students, with coach approval, can continue through Advanced Kids, with pickup at 6:30 PM. Those evening class times are on our class schedule: Beginner Kids 5:00–5:45 PM and Advanced Kids 5:45–6:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
Checkout the safe way
At the end of the day, only an authorized adult on your approved pickup list can check your child out through Brightwheel. If someone isn’t on the list, they don’t pick up.
What the weekly rate covers
The standard rate is $149 per week, which covers school pickup, snack, daily Brazilian jiu jitsu instruction and membership. There’s no separate monthly membership.
Who it’s for
- Families who need reliable after-school pickup in Azle
- Kids in kindergarten through 8th grade who are ready for coach-led martial arts training
- Parents who want their child active and supervised between school and dinner
Your child does not need prior jiu jitsu experience. New families still start with a trial so you can see the environment and meet the coaches before you enroll.
Try it before you enroll
The best way to decide is to see a day for yourself. Bring your child in for a free trial, walk the flow with us, and ask anything you need about pickup, Brightwheel, or which class level fits.
Learn more on our After School program page, check kids class times on the schedule, or contact us / call 817-308-3830. You can also start from the Kids Jiu Jitsu free-trial button if you want a first class on the mats first.
We’re a family gym in Azle — Family Friendly. Championship Level. — and afterschool is one of the clearest ways we support working parents while kids get real training every school day.
